Remote collars can be a little intimidating to use if you don’t understand them. As with any new skill a person attempts to learn, there is a period of some uncertainty at first. However, once you find the right guidance you and your dogs can be quickly on your way to enjoying more fun together.
I just received this note from a fellow dog professional who has started training her dog with an electronic collar and the Just Right dog training dvds. Great job Laurie and Chloe!
Robin,
I just wanted to report back to you LOVE my Dogtra remote trainer and how my dog has responded to it. Chloe is 10 months old and knows basic commands. Sit, down come, walk polite on lead ( I don’t care about heel, I just don’t want her pulling) l watched Just Right and have been working on my foundation work. I must admit I’ve only worked her 4-5 days, maybe 10 min at time a couple of times a day. Yesterday was the perfect opportunity to test how far she has come. The Rockford Park District is in the process of raising funds to annex an additional 20 acres , wooded with trails to it’s existing 8 acre dog park. I attended a fund raiser open house with Chloe. I let her play recalled her, off to play again… she was amazing. The park was especially busy with the open house going on and she was dead on with her recalls. She was also amazing at “wait” as we went through the gates in different parts of the dog park. We then headed to the unfenced proposed addition. We were 3 people with 4 dogs, the dogs trotted along ahead and in the woods along side us. Soon an older gentleman and his golden joined us. Chloe was REALLY enjoying her off leash freedom, but if when got more than 20 feet from me she would look over her shoulder to “check in” and make sure I was still there. I would occasionally recall her not having to use more than 2-3 taps and she bounded to me with the “Did I dog good mommy?” look on her face. I’ve had people feel the level she is on. Usually around 16 not more than 20 and they can’t believe she responds to that! My husband couldn’t even feel a 20 on his fingertips. I am just so amazed how far she has come in such a short time. My goal was to have her be able to be off lead in a clients yard by this summer to use as a proofing distraction for my clients dogs on the DogWatch Fence. After yesterdays experience I feel confident I can recall her from most anything. I can’t wait to watch Just Right 2 and take her to the next level. As person after person commented on how well trained she was I couldn’t help thinking “That’s My Dog!”
Thank You
Laurie Spain
