There are many benefits to using an electronic collar; ease, convenience, distance control, quick results…there is a long list to the pros of e-collar training. But I would be remiss if I did not point out that all these advantages do not alleviate the necessity to remember good training principles. Using an electronic collar to assist in teaching basic obedience or solve behavior problems does not mean
Here at The Truth About Shock Collars I receive many e-mails containing stories, photos, testimonials and questions about the use of electronic collars. These notes come from dog owners around the globe, people just like you and I who love their dogs and want what is best for them. I don’t edit the stories, questions or information, I just give it to you straight up, as is. So even though those scary words, “shock collar” are used again in the […]
My friend, Michael, from Michigan Dog Trainer shared another video on recent success with remote dog collar training. This one titled “Five minute Wyatt” demonstrates how quickly a dog can grasp the concept of how to walk with out pulling on leash when using an electronic collar to assist with the teaching. I want to make it clear that we are not trying to say that the e-collar is magic or that learning remote dog collar training is the be […]
There are days I wonder if I have something seriously wrong with me, ok, don’t answer that, you’re right, there are a few things, but about the strange obsession with the “shock collar”… Hardly a day goes by
The e-collar is only for lazy dog trainers and dog owners right? I am sure you’ve either heard that one before or perhaps you’ve thought it. After all, if all you have to do is push a button
My friends in the UK at BritishDog sent this note over as an example of the feedback they get from their clients regarding purchasing electronic training collars. British Dog carries a variety of dog training collars & equipment, toys, and dog gear. Our e-mail correspondence started when Wales passed a ban on remote training collars. We were discussing the absurdity of such bans and how limiting tool options doesn’t solve the problem of people become frustrated with their pets and […]
How long should it take to have well well-trained, well-behaved dog? For the Earl family, it was eight years of challenges before they found the proper training and techniques to turn their two into a more mannerly duo. However, once they learned about how the electronic collar could help them, it was only two weeks until the problems were solved. They were then on the way to the more enjoyable life they had envisioned with their dogs.
Thought you might enjoy seeing a small clip from our class today. Everyone is using a remote collar as part of their training protocol. Happy Training!
Thought I’d share a little video I made over the weekend of my pup, Diva. Just a few of the tricks she knows and how I pair motivational use of the remote collar with her favorite rewards of food and the green orb! Just for some fun viewing today! Happy Training oh….and maybe you can do me a favor and forward to someone who believe remote collars can only be used in a punitive fashion. 🙂
I had an interesting call the other day from an Animal Control officer wanting to know my take on whether or not a remote dog training collar should be considered the same as a leash. Apparently the idea was proposed that city ordinances be altered to include e-collars as an acceptable substitute for a physical leash. Those of you that have been following this blog for a while are probably pretty aware that you won’t find a much bigger advocate […]
