A Prince’s tale: what a little dog taught me about possibility

I’d like to share the story of Prince, a Boston Terrier who helped define my career as a professional trainer and particularly my learning curve about how a remote dog training collar can assist in rehabilitating dog’s with aggression issues.

Who says a 72 year old can’t manage a 90 pound dog? (or a case for remote training collars)

The following words are from a client of The Dog Squad, a dog training company in Oakland, CA that utilizes the remote training collar as one of their training tools. It is fairly brief testimonial but apparently the client was very pleased with the outcome! There were two things that struck me when I read the words below: the age of the client   and the size of the dog.

Invisible fencing, electronic collars and boundary training, oh my!!

Never use an electronic collar or SHOCK COLLAR on your dog! Never, never, never! Well, at least that is what you find on the internet when pet owners ask questions about containment or keeping their dog from bolting out of a gate. Innocent people ask innocent questions, seeking information about a problem they are having. Then, opinionated people with no actual experience provide answers like the one above. The problem with opinion is

How do I introduce an electronic collar to my dog if he is already trained?

Today I would like to share a question that was sent to me by a K9 handler interested in learning more about how to use an electronic collar with his working dog. Hi Robin, I have both your dvd’s and watched them both a few times each. A question has come up. I have a well trained police dog, meaning my dog knows sit, down ,stand, come and other commands. I want to use the ecollar

My dog just had surgery, Could a shock collar help speed her recovery?

Is it possible that training with an electronic “shock collar” could be a health benefit to the dog? That sounds like a big question doesn’t it? Is it a trick question? I suppose that depends on how you look at it. As our regular readers know, we don’t really think they are collars that are all that shocking. It is just the revelation of the truth that stuns some people. (yes, that pun was intended!) 🙂 Read the interesting note […]

Electronic collars: Don’t they have to Shock the dog in order for it to work?

A pet dog owners perspective on remote collar training (aka: shock collar training as some would call it) is always interesting to me. Under the guidance of a knowledgeable professional dog trainer the doubt always gives way to the “Wow” factor. It is hard not to be wowed by the results of a system that

Shock collar training? Whoa, would JQP really do that to their dog?

The following testimonial has some pretty strong emotion. I don’t edit these things folks, so don’t shoot the messenger. The moral of the story…well, you will have to read through to the end to find out… To whom it concerns,

Announcing: The No Nylon Lead Coalition

I realize the headline to the left is upsetting. It is upsetting to me as well. But I would like to use the story from The Daily Record in Wooster, OH to open some discussion regarding dog training and the tools used to achieve that objective. The recent story states that charges were filed after an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper witnessed a man strike his dog an estimated four or five times with a nylon lead in an “attempt […]

More feedback from satisfied users of the electronic remote training collar. The following comments come from clients of Sharon Larson. Sharon owns and operates Canine Coach in Rhinelander, WI. Remote Collar Manufactuers: What you Don’t know Might Shock you!

I recently returned from visiting Radio Systems Corp in Knoxville, TN. Radio Systems is the parent company for a number of electronic dog training product manufacturers.  One of their brands is PetSafe, whose name was recently in the news in association with attempting to challenge the ban on electronic training aids in Wales. I certainly recognize that people in the anti-Static correction campaigns are likely jumping for joy at the upheld ban and this will be
