I recently posted a request for cover photos on our I Love My e-collar and so Does My Dog! Facebook page. Whenever we post these requests there is a good response and often stories accompany the photos. Such is the case with Oliver and his owner Kimberley. I appreciate being able to share these stories because I think it is so critical that dog owners understand there are options for tools and methods for training dogs. That concept really needs […]
My How Do I Use a Shock Collar video Frequently Leads to One Question…When Should I Use the Continuous Button? Since the technique in the how to video focuses on a tap, tap, tapping cadence using the momentary button, first time e-collar users often have concerns that it might be “wrong” to use the continuous button or they wonder when it is appropriate. I’ve spoken to numerous professional trainers who tell me they prefer using the continuous button for the majority […]
There are many dog training tools available to help us find solutions for training problems. I’m grateful for that, but recently, I had an evaluation with someone whose response to the idea of using a remote collar surprised me. The new puppy owner was seeking help due to concerns over the puppy’s biting behavior. While playbiting is normal puppy behavior, this little guy would resort to the higher end of the intensity scale if he decided he didn’t want to […]
Here in the US we will be celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow. It is a day to remember all that we are grateful for. With that in mind, I did not want to over look extending my gratitude here. So, for those of you who read this blog and comment regularly, thank you for sticking beside me on this topic. As prickly as it can get from time to time I appreciate your wear-with-all in helping others understand the true nature of […]
Libby Davies, MP Vancouver East is supporting this ban shock collars petition and presenting to parliament. I have a question for you Ms. Davies and the 1400 who signed this petition…can you please explain your decision to Cindy who has MS and has already tried 3 other trainers and just about gave up on her dog before she found a humane and effective solution with a remote dog training collar. Granted, I understand
There are many ways to use a remote dog training collar. Unfortunately the first idea that comes to mind for many people is the thought that it is the *biggest hammer* in the tool box and should only be used after all other possibilities have been exhausted. I believe this philosophy
Another happy customer of Steve Bettcher and The Dog Squad. Another dog lover pleased with the training results and *shocked* at how gentle that remote collar actually can be. Like we say here at The Truth: “Careful, what you don’t know might shock you!” 😀
The UK is an area known for legislative upheaval in the dog training world, particularly in regard to electronic dog training equipment. The following testimonial is from a dog owner who used a remote collar after exhausting a myriad of other training advice and now has peace of mind that he can control his Border Collie’s dangerous habit of chasing cars.
Remote Training Collar: How Long? Or Does Your Dog Like to Speed? People have lots of questions when they are learning how remote training collars can be used to help train their dog. How do you find the right level for the dog? How do you know if the dog is feeling the stimulation? What is the correct fit for the collar? One of the more frequent questions is: How long will my dog have to wear the collar? It […]
This past August I taught a workshop on how to use a remote training collar (or unfortunately as some people call them: shock collar) to teach basic obedience and manners to pet dogs. Over the course of two days we worked on exercises like how to find the right level to gain the dog’s attention, how to teach loose lead walking, stay in one place and come when called. The training helps
